Artists’ Imagine Politics: “On Democracy” Exhibit

I am very excited to announce my acceptance into the Newspace Gallery exhibit entitled “On Democracy”. The Portland based fine art gallery asks the question “What does democracy look like to you?” The exhibit opens Friday Oct. 7 and the selected photographs take various approaches in response to the open call’s question. My accepted submission “Emergence” is []

The Pear Series

Emotion can be a significant component in a photograph, the medium captures humanity in all of it’s raw and varied forms. I chose to express the commonality of our human experience through my “Pear Series” photographs, works on Polaroid. This body of work allowed me to communicate particular feelings through the vehicle of the fruit. It’s []

The Four Pops

I have always been a fan of the painters Wayne Thiebaud and Paul Wonner. They both glorify everyday objects and lift them, through their vision and skill, to the heights of art. Such was the inspiration for my image, shot and submitted for today’s Daily Photo Game. Robert’s cool image “Shruburbia” gave me the numerical []

Danger Ahead

Satire is a fun thing to play with in photography. It’s something I think about all the time. My image, shot for today’s Daily Photo Game play’s with this notion on a couple of levels. Our new streetcar in Portland has these cycling “warning” signs along the line, when I first saw them I thought []

Fully Baked

My new image for the DailyPhotoGame.com. Robert”s storefront bakery image, “Hansel and Gretel”, had so much color and pattern to it, this got me thinking. I know of a local house that embodies the local saying “Keep Portland Weird”. The house’s bright colors, objects d’art, the signage and all of the rest of it is []

Architectural Book Features Russ Widstrand’s Photographs

Russ Widstrand’s client, Barton Myers Architect, will be included in a new book titled “Architecture: The Whole Story”. Widstrand’s architectural photography illustrates the spread on Myers’ Toro Canyon House in Montecito, CA. The book will be available on Sept. 25, 2014 via Amazon and bookstores around the world. The publisher, Prestel, had this to say about the new book… “This []

Water Falling

Water continues to be a theme at the Daily Photo Game and I decided to follow suit. This image of water falling off of a high-end water feature captivates me. I love the way the late afternoon sunlight rakes across the drops providing a surreal curtain from which to shoot through. Additionally, the feature itself casts a []

Alignment

The current thread of the Game has been fun to watch. I especially like the round theme, it provides flow and cohesion to the Game. My contribution to the timeline continues with the round theme, times four. I made this capture early this morning. I liked the 4 orbs and how they aligned in some []

Verdant Moss GMC

I recently had a major hard drive failure and am in the midst of rebuilding my OS. So my game image for today was sourced from my library. It is an iPhone image I captured on a walk in Corvallis shortly after we moved to Oregon. “Welcome to Mossy Town!”, I thought to myself (one of []

Reflected Branches

I chose another form of branches to follow Robert’s asparagus fern shot for the Game. I shot this image while out hiking in the Columbia Gorge. A gorgeous hike with beautiful waterfalls, streams and light. This reflected image struck me as soon as I framed it, it had great compositional form and the blue sky []
